The Basic GCS

OK, Let's start this ball rolling.

It's midnight, your hungry and you've got an empty cupboard. In the fridge Monday night leftovers and cold cuts leave you yearning for something more. Something fresh, something tasty something grilled!! Yes. something oozing with hot and delicious cheesy goodness.

On top the counter you spy a loaf of bread and a quick review of the fridge nets you a handful of cheese slices at this point there is only one thing to do. Heat up that pan and melt a little butter it's time to start grillin!

So here you've assembled the basic building blocks of the simple grilled cheese sandwich; bread and cheese, there really isn't much else you need other than a little something to get that grill going. Butter, margarine, olive oil or even a little mayo I have been told (more on that later) will get that skillet sizzling.

At this point I could ramble on about proper cooking methods, tips and tricks but let's save that for something a bit more interesting. This after all is just an entry level midnight snack right?

Now, I assume that if you've sought out and found our blog, you haven't made less than a few dozen (if not a few thousand) GCS in your time so you know when your sandwich is ready.

I assume that sometime after the golden brown tan covers the exterior, but before the cheese peeks out from behind the toasty crusts you will flop your friend out of the pan and onto your waiting plate. Don't hesitate to relieve the bread from the pan, else you might risky a foul charring of the surface. You can always use that handy toaster oven to keep your sandwich warm too. If your lucky maybe a second GCS will follow closely behind because the only thing better than a grilled cheese sandwich is more grilled cheese sandwich.

Behold, the simple yet satisfying plain jane Grilled Cheese Sandwich. This no frills, and nearly foolproof sandwich is a classic appitite suppressor and always manages to please it's hungry handlers. When in doubt and in need this basic GCS is your friend indeed. Enjoy.
